CGI Server

About 3 months ago RedHat notified us that they would no longer be supplying patches and support upgrades for the Linux Operating System that we used for our CGI server. In an attempt to get another version of Linux to use for our CGI servers there have been many incompatibilities between the OSes and the packages that we want to run. We have rebuilt the CGI server many times in the past couple of months. We are aware that this causes many headaches for those with scripts on the CGI server. To everyone's benefit we have not lost any data in these transitions. We now have a stable CGI server. We will continue to monitor that server to ensure it does its job.

All the functions of the CGI server are working exactly as we want them to the best of our knowledge. The only issue that we know about at this time is that somehow the server is getting overloaded a couple of times a day. We have built a few processes to automatically monitor the CGI server and its' processes. This monitor will restart any failing processes without any manual intervention. We are working constantly on making adjusts to the way the server operates to make sure that no one domain's scripts can cause the server adverse effects.

Many folks have expressed interest on having their main site hosted on the CGI server. You can now request that your main (www) site be hosted on the CGI server. The first step in this process would be to download all files from the main web server and upload your content to the CGI server as you would like it. You can then send an email to support@activewebhosting.com requesting that we change the host of your main site to the CGI server. Please keep in mind that the CGI server will not allow the distribution of any non web site related file types such as zip, mp3, exe, etc. Also you can NOT host others on a site being hosted on the CGI server. If you choose to move your site to the CGI server and it does not work for you then you can always request it to be moved back.

Please remember that there is no sub-hosting or hostees allowed to be hosted on the CGI server. It is the policy of Active Web Hosting to delete any CGI account that is found to be hosting scripts for others on the CGI server. If you have hostees who want scripts then please refer them to Active Web Hosting so they can get their own domain.
