How To Create, Change, Delete, or List Your FTP Accounts
You can add or create, change, delete or list your FTP account information from
the
Account Administration System.
Below are steps for each function:
Creating or Adding an FTP Account
You can do this if you wish to have another person log in to your domain and
have a space of their own for their web pages. Remember, your hostees are not
allowed to use anything on your CGI server. This only sets up an FTP account for
them to use. Only the main domain account (the default account you are given when
your domain first went online) is allowed to use the CGI server.
FTP into the domain which you want to add the account to and create a directory
to hold the new FTP account's files.
Log into the
Account Administration System.
Scroll down to the Domain Information area and click on the link for the
domain you wish to create an FTP account on.
In the FTP Accounts area, click on the Add an FTP Account link.
Choose a username and password for the FTP log in information.
In the Directory box, enter the same name of the directory you created
in Step 1. Click the Submit button when done.
You will be emailed information on the new FTP account. This will include the
username, password and ftp host information. The information will look something
like this:
- host: ftp.yourdomain.com
- username: yourdomain.com.your_username
- password: xxxxxxxxx
NOTE: While you can use this new directory to serve web pages, the FTP
directory itself is not public. If someone logs into the FTP space too many
times to access files, then your account could be suspended. This is why you
should always link to the new site only as follows:
http://www.yourdomain.com/your_username/
Please be sure to wait for the confirmation email before you try to access your
new FTP account.
Changing FTP Account Information & Password
Log into the
Account Administration System.
Scroll down to the Domain Information area and click on the link for the
domain which holds the FTP account in which you wish to change.
In the FTP Accounts area, click on the link that indicates the FTP
account you wish to change. For example, it will look something like
yourdomain.com.ftp_account_username.
If you wish to change your password, click in the box next to 'Password' and
delete the text of the old one. Now type in your new password. Click the Submit
button when done.
Changing Your Username
You can change the password and/or directory of an FTP account, but not the
username (which is part of that account's web address). To change the username,
you have to create a new FTP account with a new username and use the same
password (if preferred) and same directory. You can then delete the old FTP
account. Please be sure to note that the web address will now be different as
well, for example: http://www.yourdomain.com/new_username/
Deleting an FTP Account
Log into the
Account Administration System.
Scroll down to the Domain Information area and click on the link for the
domain you wish to delete an FTP account from.
In the FTP Accounts area, click on the link that indicates the FTP
account you wish to delete. For example, it will look something like
yourdomain.com.ftp_account_username.
Click in the Delete Account check box and then the Submit button.
You may now FTP into your domain and remove the files and the directory that
held the FTP account you deleted.
Listing All FTP Accounts On A Domain
Log into the
Account Administration System.
Scroll down to the Domain Information area and click on the link for the
domain in which you wish to list the FTP accounts.
You'll now see a list of FTP accounts on that domain, including the usernames,
passwords, and the directory that the FTP account resides in. From here you can
click on the links to delete or make changes to any acocunt or create a new
account.
